LED can be divided into many kinds, divided into different colors. So, what is the difference between different LED? We usually see a variety of LED is based on what to distinguish? In comparison, what are their advantages? Revealed for you today, the secrets of purple and blue LEDs.

Purple LED

Diode emitting UV light. Generally refers to the LED center wavelength of 400nm below the LED, but sometimes when the emission wavelength is greater than 380nm called near-UV LED, and shorter than 300nm called deep-UV LED. Due to high bactericidal effect of short-wavelength light, ultraviolet LED is often used in sterilization and deodorization of refrigerators, home appliances, etc.

Diode emitting UV light. Generally refers to the LED center wavelength of 400nm below the LED, but sometimes when the emission wavelength is greater than 380nm called near-UV LED, and shorter than 300nm called deep-UV LED. Because of the high bactericidal effect of short-wavelength light, UV LEDs are commonly used in sterilization and deodorization applications such as refrigerators and home appliances, as well as in applications such as LEDs that emit visible light in combination with phosphors. For example, red, green and blue phosphors are combined with UV LEDs to obtain white LEDs.

UV LED mainly uses GaN semiconductors. In terms of products, Nitride Semiconductor Co., Ltd. has launched a series of products that emit light at wavelengths ranging from 365nm to 385nm. Nitride Semiconductor has introduced various types of light-emitting center wavelengths ranging from 355nm to 375nm.

Deep UV LED wavelength less than 300nm development activities are also very active. In 2008, RIKEN and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. announced that InAlGaN using GaN-based semiconductors has developed a deep UV LED with a luminescent center wavelength of 282 nm and a light output of 10 mW. In terms of shorter wavelength UV LEDs, NTT Institute of Physical Science and Technology has developed a deep UV LED with a center emission wavelength of 210 nm using AlN material.

Diode emitting infrared light. Generally refers to the light-emitting center wavelength of more than 700nm LED. Multi-purpose remote control and infrared communication for the light source, ranging sensor light source, photocoupler light source and the printer head light source. The infrared LED uses GaAs-based semiconductor material such as AlGaAsP.
